UPDATES:
January 13th 2001 - Original text is now
on-line along with supplemental maps. I have sent the links to
some assistants for final editing.
December
6th 2001 - All pages have been scanned in. I will edit them over
the next few weeks and all should be up and functional by mid-January
as planned.
December
3rd 2001. Tremendous support was shown for this project at the
American Anthropological Association meetings this past weekend.
I greatly appreciated all of the comments and suggestions I received.
I expect to have the full text of Carpenter's work up by mid-January
2002. I will then be asking for commentary on the material from
those with expertise on the subjects. Eventually, videos and pictures
from Carpenter's 1969-1970 journey to New Guinea will also be
available - interlinked with the texts to which they refer. Over
the next couple of years this site will grow into a resource for
those interested in Edmund Carpenter's work. A full bibliography
will be available, as well as pdfs of some of his more difficult
to find articles. Thanks to all those who have shown support for
this project,
Michael Wesch
